Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) asked the California State Assembly to adjourn in memory of the victims of this week’s tragic shootings in Fresno. He spoke about each of the four victims of the horrible events that began last Thursday with the shooting of an unarmed security guard and ended with three more innocent individuals being shot and killed on Tuesday. SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) released the following statement after Gov. Jerry Brown released his initial budget proposal:
“I believe the Governor has laid out a responsible approach to this year’s budget. Due to the uncertainty we face at the federal level, I think it is prudent to proceed cautiously. We need to wait and see what the new Trump Administration will propose to important programs like the Affordable Care Act and respond appropriately. What the Governor has proposed today is a starting point and we will use the next six months to develop a balanced budget.”
SACRAMENTO — Today, Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) held the first of a three-part roundtable discussion titled, “Advancing Latino Health: Are California Medical Schools Meeting the Needs of the Latino Community?”
The discussion focused on issues related to health disparities in the Latino community and the roles that certain barriers play into Latinos’ lack of health insurance including language, religion, and fear of exposing immigration status.

Bipartisan call to help transform California’s most disadvantaged communities
(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D – Fresno) and Mayor Ashley Swearengin (R – Fresno) testified before the California State Assembly Budget Committee today to encourage increased investment of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funds in Fresno, which has the highest concentration of disadvantaged communities in the state.
“More than two thirds of the neighborhoods in Fresno are at poverty or extreme poverty levels, and changing those conditions will take deliberate action and a strong public-private partnership,” said Mayor Swearengin. “We need a catalyst for further investment that will help struggling cities overcome obstacles and bring new life to our most vulnerable communities.”
Health disparity data, medical interpreters are key asks of Budget Subcommittee
(SACRAMENTO) – Newly elected Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D – Fresno) is requesting budget funding for a program intended to identify health disparities by race, ethnicity and language data.
“I’ve seen firsthand the health disparities that exist,” said Dr. Arambula. “The data we collect will help guide future solutions to this major medical issue.”
