(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) today responded to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed California Budget for 2019-20:
“I am pleased to see our new Governor’s commitment to strengthening the economic and medical health of our state. Far too many people in our state base their health care on whether they can afford to pay for it, despite having access to health insurance. Governor Newsom’s proposed investments to California’s health care system share the same principles and mirror many of the budget proposals that the Assembly approved last year. I am thrilled that his budget recognizes the need to expand coverage for young adults regardless of immigration status and makes health care more affordable for the middle class. I am optimistic that we can build on the Governor’s proposals to expand coverage, increase access, address workforce capacity issues, improve accountability and transparency and make health care more affordable for all.
“Additionally, I will be working closely with my colleagues and Governor Newsom to continue making investments in the disadvantaged communities that make up much of my district so we can continue creating transformative, positive change in these communities that desperately need it. Access to water for agricultural, rural, municipal, and environmental uses; investments to our workforce development and infrastructure; and increased educational opportunities are some of the challenges that we will continue tackling in the days ahead. Over the last several years, we have kept California on the right economic track with prudent investments to the economic, educational, environmental, and health outlook for all. A bold, strategic investment strategy will help us meet the challenge of creating a Golden California for all.”
